"Success does not come without commitment. If you are going to do better this next year than you did this year, then you must make a decision to give it your very best shot! A haphazard, “take-it-easy-and-don’t-be-too -hard-on-yourself” approach will not cause any significant changes to take place in your life. If you are really committed to reaching new objectives, then you must ask the Holy Spirit for His help, and then start reaching forth toward these goals with every ounce of your mind, soul, and strength." ~ Rick Renner

This quote can apply to so much in life...at this time of year when we are reflecting on the old year and anticipating the new year...thoughts like these can help us make a better year whether we want improved fitness, finances, relationships, etc.

Run to Get the Prize
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. ~ 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV)

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Slower Pace = Better Vision
"Jesus walked a lot, and not only during the last week of his life. The four gospels are peppered with accounts of him walking into the countryside, walking by the Sea of Galilee, walking in the Temple, and even walking on water…. This gave him time to see things. If he had been moving more quickly–even to reach more people–these things might have become a blur to him. Because he was moving slowly, they came into focus for him, just as he came into focus for them. Sometimes he had a destination, sometimes he did not. For many who followed him around, he was the destination…. While many of his present-day admirers pay close attention to what he said and did, they pay less attention to the pace at which he did it." ~ Barbara Brown Taylor

How Much Should You Weight?
This is an interesting calculator. It might help people see they don't need to be as low on the scale as they initially thought. For instance a muscular man with a broad build at 5'9" would be told by the BMI charts that he should weigh about 160 lbs., but if the info is entered into this calculator the weight comes out at 179.1 lbs. Check it out...

Every Body Matters
If you haven't read Gary Thomas's book, Every Body Matters, I highly recommend it.
"Physical training is like farming. Much of the work that produces it is unseen. No one is applauding or even recognizing our efforts. But the life it creates can be used by God to bless and serve many. The "planting" is grueling; the harvest can be great." ~ Gary Thomas (Every Body Matters)
